　　上海临港地区规划面积315平方公里，人口120万，由主城区、重装备产业区、物流园区、主产业区、综合区、奉贤园区功能区域组成，是上海市委、市政府着眼二十一世纪全球经济社会发展新趋势，实施上海新一轮发展的重大战略决策，是上海进一步优化产业布局，提升产业能级，提高城市国际竞争力的战略举措。发展高端产业，建设高水平城市，临港着力打造产城融合发展的具有滨海特色的科技、智慧、生态、宜居之城。

　　lingang area of shanghai
covers a total planned area of 315km2, built for an expected
population of 1.2 million residents. the whole area can be divided into six
functional zones, namely, urban zone, heavy equipment manufacturing zone,
logistics park, greater industrial zone, mixed-use zone, as well as fengxian
zone. the development of lingang is a significant strategic decision made by
cpc shanghai committee and shanghai municipal government in face of the new
trend of economic and social development around the globe in the 21stcentury. it serves as a concrete measure to boost the new round of urban
development of shanghai and to improve shanghai’s competitiveness in the global
arena by optimising its industrial layout and upgrading the existing industries.
high-end industries and a world-class city are moving lingang forward to be a
green, livable and high-tech-driven smart city that sets the example of
coordinated urbanisation and industrialisation in a coastal area.

　　作为上海建设具有全球影响力科技创新中心的主体承载区，临港地区将在原有产业的基础上，立足国家战略，依托上海优势，聚焦重点领域、重大项目、关键技术，加快构建“2+3+4”产业体系，加快国际智能制造中心建设，实现先进制造业和现代服务业的高效联动，成为国家新型工业化示范基地和战略性新兴产业示范区；未来的临港，城市功能配套将不断完善、产城融合将进一步提升，创新动力显著增强，内生活力持续涌现，成为科技智慧、生态低碳、宜居宜业的未来之城。

　　as the main functional area
for the implementation of shanghai’s initiative of making the city a science
and technological innovation centre of global influence, lingang area is now
accelerating to build up its new industrial system, or “strategy 2+3+4”, based
on lingang’s traditional strength in its existing industries, china’s
industrial development planning as well as shanghai’s industrial advantage. the
new strategy will bring in key projects and technologies in key industrial
sectors, and the main tasks outlined by the strategy is to enhance lingang’s
advancement into an international centre for smart manufacturing and to realise
the efficient interaction between advanced manufacturing and modern services.
lingang will fulfill the connotation of the two merits honoured by national
authorities, or the national demo zone for new type of industrialisation and
national demo zone for strategic emerging industries. in the near future, the
urban functions of lingang will be continuously improved with prosperous
innovation activities and strong city dynamism. eventually, lingang will have
become a low-carbon, livable and high-tech-driven smart city defining the
future urban lifestyles.
